Both Lakewood and Prince Edward Park will be improved considerably for 2012.
Sutherland Shire Council has returfed around 2/3rds of Lakewood and is still to carry out further minor works around the ground before the season starts including weeding and topdressing. There will be no cricket pitch in the field for 2012 but a new pitch will be installed at the end of season. This will be centred to the soccer field and will be dead level with the playing surface meaning a synthetic cover can be used in future seasons rather than covering the pitch with dirt.
In December the cricket pitch at Prince Edward Park was converted to a multipurpose surface which means it will not need to be covered at all in the season change over. There will be some maintenance required but the results should be much improved. Council will be carrying out further refurbishment of the playing surface early in 2012.
The work carried across the two fields will exceed $90,000 in value which is on top of $110,000 invested in 2011 to install training lights at Prince Edward Park and to upgrade theLakewoodlighting to enable night matches.
In the past 3 years Lakewood Reserve has also benefited from a substantial upgrade to the Playground and Car Park. Council has also started work on a master plan to upgrade all of Prince Edward Park which should see the amenity improved for all users of the park over the next few years.
BBFC is fortunate to have to two wonderful locations to host home matches. It is important that club members understand we need to have strategies in place to keep them in good order for matches. This may include exploring ways to reduce the training load on the fields as they get established over the next 12 months.
We thank Sutherland Shire Council and the local junior and senior cricket associations for their support in making these upgrades a reality.
Titans FC is a club operating under the Sutherland Shire Football Association which provides people with a disability the opportunity to participate in matches against main stream sporting teams. Generally club teams with a bye are drawn to play a Titans team they are physically matched against. This club was initiated a few years ago by the family of one of the players and 2011 saw other clubs become involved for the first time to take a load off the Titans FC committee. When volunteers were sought BBFC was one of the first clubs to get involved and 20 of our club members got on board within days. Only St Patrick’s had that level of support although there were another 5 clubs in all involved in the program.
The BBFC volunteers “buddied up” with the Titans FC under 8s who had a fantastic season. The BBFC volunteers, who came from 11 different teams, were Sarah Burgess, Callie Noakes, Georgia West, Hayden Watson, Tim Brady, Michael Kelly, Cara Brady, Kayla Ross, Nickie Davidson, Sean Brailey, Laura Douglas, Renee Davidson, Michael Burgess, Sarah Royal, Matt Cheshire, Michael Jandzio, Jess Saxelby, Jarrod Roy, Sam Horeau and Sam Cornish.
The committee and club members were justifiably proud of the efforts of these mostly younger members of our club. In many ways in was a demonstration that the “Bomberaderie” we engender is helping to develop good citizens with a community conscience. These young members were awarded the Club’s Achievement Award for 2011 in recognition of their invaluable contribution.
BBFC encourages all members to get involved in the club’s social events which will be bigger and better than ever in 2012. This is one of the things that really set us apart from other clubs so please get involved in the Bomberaderie. We’ll be holding:
- Annual Golf Day
- Mid Season Fundraiser – let’s make our new clubhouse a reality
- Open Mike Night
- Sundays at The Bay
- Junior Presentation Days
- Senior Presentation Dinner
- The Lime Army throughout the Finals Series leading to Grand Final Night
