Titans FC “Buddy Team”
Titans FC is a club operating under the Sutherland Shire Football Association which provides people with a disability the opportunity to participate in matches against main stream sporting teams. Generally club teams with a bye are drawn to play a Titans team they are physically matched against. This club was initiated a few years ago by the family of one of the players and 2011 saw other clubs become involved for the first time to take a load off the Titans FC committee. When volunteers were sought BBFC was one of the first clubs to get involved and 20 of our club members got on board within days. Only St Patrick’s had that level of support although there were another 5 clubs in all involved in the program.
The BBFC volunteers “buddied up” with the Titans FC under 8s who had a fantastic season. The BBFC volunteers, who came from 11 different teams, were Sarah Burgess, Callie Noakes, Georgia West, Hayden Watson, Tim Brady, Michael Kelly, Cara Brady, Kayla Ross, Nickie Davidson, Sean Brailey, Laura Douglas, Renee Davidson, Michael Burgess, Sarah Royal, Matt Cheshire, Michael Jandzio, Jess Saxelby, Jarrod Roy, Sam Horeau and Sam Cornish.
The committee and club members were justifiably proud of the efforts of these mostly younger members of our club. In many ways in was a demonstration that the “Bomberaderie” we engender is helping to develop good citizens with a community conscience. These young members were awarded the Club’s Achievement Award for 2011 in recognition of their invaluable contribution.
